Binate explores embodying Bigelow Chapel as a spire & conductor of light and darkness, a chamber and instrument that both draws light from within it and emits it outward. While light is the main medium in concept & visual language, we must respect and acknowledge that light is only possible because of darkness. This piece is intended to hold that duality which is so resonant on the grounds of Mount Auburn Cemetery. Through visual poetic gestures within the architecture and the original sound composition of LEYA, this piece is aimed to express duality for guests to be able to find their own moment within that binate spectrum.
